Who are you? Tell us a bit more about yourself!

My name is Harresh and I am currently a Sophomore at Singapore Management University. I also am the Red Bull Student Brand Manager at SMU and an avid rugby player. I have been playing the sport since I was 8 years old and represented my respective schools, club and the National Team across all age groups.

Being a Red Bull Student Brand Manager, I get to be “that Red Bull guy” on campus. What really makes me happy and passionate about what I am doing is providing and supporting events that are infamous in SMU and around the University scene. On a smaller scale, if I see a friend or someone looking tired in the Library or around school, passing him or her a can of Red Bull and seeing them smile makes my day.

What’s your story? Tell us about a life-changing incident.

I don’t have one particular life-changing incident, but I have a few. The first being during National Service when I was applying for University. I had applied twice to SMU and got rejected on both occasions. So upon completion of National Service, I choose to pursue my undergraduate studies at a private university. I was not very happy and felt really frustrated as I knew I was going to miss out on the whole university culture. During my first year, I decided to apply to SMU again.. And got accepted! I can safely say that the last one year in SMU has been the most fun, rewarding and best times of my life so far. My perserverence paid off and since then I have felt more grateful and cherished all the opportunities that life throws at me.

Why 50for50 and why now?

50for50 is an amazing initiative led by some really capable and awesome people who know their stuff. I feel this a great time to get involved in an initiative like this as more people on a global scale are becoming more aware of the different situations some people face and are more willing to help in whatever small way they can.

What gets you up in the morning?

Every day presents new opportunities and moments. Waking up knowing this certainly helps as my morning pick me up!

Why this cause out of so many causes?

With 50for50 being so new and fresh, it excites me to see what great things can come out of this now and for the long run.

Any experiences with charity or non-profit work before?

I was part of the committee at my rugby club that helped raised funds for the victims of the earthquake that hit Japan a few years ago. We raised quite a fair bit of money and topped it off with a charity rugby match.

What kind of change are you looking to bring about as a changemaker?

I would love to make a huge social noise come out of this campaign, It is definitely something fresh and new and I hope to garner as much support with this as I can.

What is your big idea on how to raise funds for 50for50?

I plan to get the support from all my friends at SMU and my colleagues from Red Bull to raise awareness through social media, word of mouth or any other means possible. I know I cannot do this alone and with the help of my mates, I know raising funds for 50for50 will be fun and fulfilling.
