Who are you? Tell us a bit more about yourself!

I am a mother. I am also a lawyer and spend a good part of my working time in arbitration or court hearings. In fact, while I was pregnant, I spent several weeks cross-examining witnesses and making submissions in the courtroom. That probably explains why my son (who is now 10 months old) has my characteristic frown.

What’s your story? Tell us about a life-changing incident.

Obviously, having our son has been the most life-changing event, as it transforms one’s entire outlook on life. Many other experiences I have had shaped each chapter of my life, and I am fortunate that they have been mostly positive.

Why 50for50 and why now?

I believe in the cause, and firmly believe that each and every person can make a difference. This is a chance to give something back to the community.

What gets you up in the morning?

To live life to its fullest!

Why this cause out of so many causes?

I have decided to support the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, as I find that there is a lack of public awareness of the medical (and legal) issues that affect elderly persons who have dementia. I personally feel that this is an extremely important cause, particularly with the aging population in Singapore. We come into this world needing help from others and, very often, many will also need help before they leave it. Far less attention gets paid to those in their twilight years. More funds need to be raised to build more day care centres and to provide support services, as not every elderly in Singapore is blessed with financial and strong family help.

Any experiences with charity or non-profit work before?

I have volunteered at children’s and old folks’ homes. I have also done some pro bono legal work.

What kind of change are you looking to bring about as a changemaker?

By supporting this 50for50 movement, I hope that others will also be motivated and inspired to do their part for the community.

What is your big idea on how to raise funds for 50for50?

I have decided to raise funds through a more hands on approach, by reaching out to my business contacts, colleagues, family and friends to garner donations. I am still trying to think of novel ways to do this.
