Who are you? Tell us a bit more about yourself!

Im Paul Foster, a proud born and bred Singaporean of mixed British/Chinese parentage. Ive been fortunate enough to build a career in the entertainment industry, having worked primarily as a model, actor and host over the last 12 years. I love my food and therefore as a result I love to keep fit, or I wouldn’t be able to enjoy eating so much! I have always been active in sport so for me it’s just second nature to enjoy fitness. I also love to travel and take my opportunities to see the world when possible. Aside from the entertainment scene, im also involved with various strategic business partnerships in all sorts of industries. I never really have just one speciality, but rather enjoy the diversity that my opportunities allow me to capitalise on…

What’s your story? Tell us about a life-changing incident.

The biggest life changer for me, was the passing of my father from cancer. I was 18 just finishing my last year of high school with the rest of my life ahead of me. Dad was sick for a while and fought hard, but as cancer is, unfortunately he lost the battle. This was the exact moment I had to step up and not only take care of myself, but my family. 15 years have passed and the memory of him drives me every day to be the best person I can be not just for myself, but for everyone. Ever since 1999, ive been a strong supporter of all cancer related charities, but since 2010 I have been able to use my influence to significantly help many more different organisations who need support.

Why 50for50 and why now?

One of my friends thought of me and asked. Then 2 other friends got in touch and said this is my kind of thing, can you do it? After some research and a fruitful meeting, there was no doubt! The fact that we must be under 35 is good too cause this would technically be the last year I can do it! Im always looking for charitable causes to help in and the 50for50 happens to fall right on when I am also organising doing another charitable event in line with The Global Party. So ive basically tied in my donation raising efforts to the event happening on September 24th at House of Dandy.

What gets you up in the morning?

Hmmmmmm, hunger?! Aside from the physical need to eat, it’s also the hunger to do something, to make something of yourself, to make a difference in the world, whether big or small. Im not always working but there is always something to do. Life doesn’t stop just cause your sleeping, so every day you have to get up and see what’s going on. There are moments where you need to do things for yourself and there are other times, where you will do things for other people. There are a lot of people in this world who have a life of less quality, those other times where you can help them are sometimes the most fulfilling.

Why this cause out of so many causes?

From the list of beneficiaries we were able to choose from, I noticed the Make A Wish Foundation and did not realise we had one here in Singapore. Else where in the world such as the US, I’ve seen them do amazing things for kids, literally making their wishes come true and I’d like to help be a part of this cause here. For the 50 for 50 we are raising monetary donations and creating awareness, but for the future I would like to personally help make a wish come true!!!

I have also taken the liberty to support a secondary charity in the chance I was able to collect more than the $25k. My aim in 4 months is to raise close to $50k so that I can then also help the Diabetic Society of Singapore. My family has a history of Diabetes, so I know first-hand what it is like to see family members deal with this condition.

Any experiences with charity or non-profit work before?

Yes! I have built homes in Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam and Malaysia as an ambassador for Habitat for Humanity Singapore. I have also cleaned a flat, walked barefoot, ran, fought in the boxing ring for 3 rounds, played football matches, trained and danced in classical and Latino disciplines, been auctioned off, been an auctioneer and hosted events all in the name of charity.

What kind of change are you looking to bring about as a changemaker?

Hopefully the change is just to inspire others to be more charitable. Not just by donating to a cause, but also actively getting involved. My primary goal is always to help the charity but from there I do hope others will see the effort from everyone involved and pay it forward some more.

What is your big idea on how to raise funds for 50for50?

As mentioned above, my main driving force will be The Global Party being held on the 24th of September at the House of Dandy. Where invited guests will buy tickets, have a chance to buy auction items and donate further if they wish so. After which though I still have 3 months to create more awareness and raise more money throughout various appeals and activities.
