FRIENDS OF THE DISABLED SOCIETY
- Prior to the registration of the society, a group of ladies often came together to organize annual Christmas parties for the disabled, feeling more could be done to enrich the lives of the disabled. Established as a registered society in 2000, Friends of the Disabled aims to cater to the emotional, social and physical needs on a greater level.
- Friends of the Disabled has three running programmes: Home Visitation, Social Interaction and Skill & Entrepreneurship Program. Volunteers of the charity pay regular visits to the severely disabled and homebound so as to cater to their needs and befriend them. The charity holds bi-monthly activities, recreational and educational outings to places of interests, as well as organize parties and celebrations. On the other hand, The Skill Enrichment Programme seeks to impart skills and conduct trainings to enhance the lives of the disabled in the community. The current adopted programme is the Art and Craft Development Programme. Crafts made from these trainings are sold at FOTD’s stall in PATH (Pop and Talent Hub), organized by social Innovation Park, Level 1 of Vivocity. The stall is open on the first and last weekend of every month. With a little help from volunteers, the disabled Friends manages the stall.
