The Law Society of Singapore Pro Bono, Learning & Support Services (PLSS) was started by the Pro Bono Services Office of the Law Society of Singapore that was conferred the status of a Charity in 2008. PLSS runs 2 types of programmes to serve the community – one type for the individual, and the other for community-serving organizations and the community at large. These include the Community Legal Clinic Scheme, the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme and the Ad Hoc Pro Bono Referral Scheme. These Schemes are set up to provide legal aids and advice for the needy who may not have access to legal advice or representation or do not have the means to pay for a lawyer.

For organizations serving the community, PLSS seeks to provide legal assistance to charities and voluntary welfare organizations as a top-down approach to pro bono efforts in the community. In recognition of the limited resources these organizations run on, 3 legal assistance schemes – Community Organization Clinic, Project Law Help and Joint International Pro Bono Committee are set up to provide legal assistances for these groups. On the other hand, PLSS also has a number of schemes for their volunteers. These schemes assist and provide guidance to practitioners and firms to undertake their own pro bono initiatives and also refer dysfunctional pro bono clients.
