VERY SPECIAL ARTS

Launched in September 1993, Very Special Arts Singapore (VSA Singapore) aims to provide people with disabilities with opportunities to access the arts for rehabilitation and social integration. Believing in a world where people with disabilities are empowered through the arts, and can contribute to and integrate with the community, VSA Singapore seeks to create and provide access for these people through the arts.

Two main services that VSA Singapore provides are Arts in Learning, Rehabilitation and Training (ALERT) as well as Arts for Livelihood and Employment (ALIVE). Through ALERT, VSA hopes to promote the use of arts in education and social integration of people with disabilities by designing programmes that cater to youths ranging between 6 to 18 years of age. Some examples under this umbrella of programmes include Special Art Class, Play Theatre, Art Competition & Exhibition as well as Art Camps. On the other hand in ALIVE, the programmes focus on using arts and arts-creation to inspire people with disabilities to gain skills and confidence that will enable them to find employment and independence. Crafter’s Guild and Adult Art Class are some activities catered to young adults with disabilities.
